scan1 works like its counterpart with an initial value, except
that the initial value is taken to be the first element of the given
Sequence.

for example, (1::id).scan (+) would create [1, 2, 3, 4, ...], while
(1..).scan (+) would create [1, 3, 6, 10, ...].
